Tuesday the 3rd...TAKS day!

I just wanted to send a few tidbits of info. for next Tuesday's TAKS test. We've been working hard all week in our writing camp, and the time has come for our kids to shine! The best thing to do is make sure they're good and rested (thus relaxed) the night before, meaning at least 9-10 hours of rest. On Tuesday, no parents will be allowed in the building after the first bell, so no volunteers or "hall lounging" on that day. Also, both students and teachers alike will have to leave their cell phones at home, so if your child has one, please keep it at home for that day only. Most importantly, 4th grade has rescheduled their lunch for 12:15 so they can have a straight set of time to write thier papers (4 hours!). What this means is that our snack time will be pushed back to about 10:15 (one hour later than usual). PLEASE make sure you pack a substantial snack for your child that day, as well as provide a good, full breakfast on that morning - they're going to need all the fuel they can get. If you might have a hard time getting breakfast ready on that day, the cafeteria is always serving for a decent price. That being said, we won't have to go through all of this again come April for the Math/reading tests - we'll be on a regular schedule.
I can't wait for the kids to show what they've got! Stay positive, encouraging, and celebrate with them when they come home that day, as it will no doubt be the toughest academic accomplishment they will have faced so far in their young lives.

2 Field Trips in 1 Week!!

Ok, so the BIG trip to San Antonio is still on and will be Friday from 7am-6ish pm. Make sure to pack 2 snacks - 1 for on the way there, 1 for on the way back. Lunches will be refrigerated.

The other trip is on Wednesday to the Heartland Nursing Home from 12:45-1:45. We plan to give Valentine's cards to members of the Center and play a game or two. This is in correlation with A Legacy of Giving's Art From the Heart campaign. Permission slips went home today.

Have a great week!

San Antonio Field Trip

The official meeting for the Alamo field trip will be held on Monday, February 2nd (Groundhog Day) in Mrs. Bourque's room at 3:00 p.m. If you plan on coming to San Antonio with the 4th grade you must attend this meeting. Also, you must complete the background check (for any field trip, according to the school district). Riding on the bus with the kids is not an option. There will be 10 district employees on the buses (5 on each), and everyone else who plans on coming will need to arrange their own transportation to follow the bus to S.A.. Some have already begun to form carpools, which we are more than okay with. There will be a sign in sheet at the meeting so we can keep track of ho attended.

...a few odds and ends

Hi all,
First and foremost, I want to wish everyone a very happy and safe Thanksgiving! The kids (and myself admittedly) are ready for a much needed break. They have worked SO hard over the past few weeks and they should be commended for it. We will come back to a 3-week session before the winter break, and then a few more weeks to begin January will conclude the 2nd nine weeks. So far, so good!

With that being said....

1) The field trip forms are back and in good order. Thank you for the quick responses! We will notify you all when we get a solid date for the Blanton museum field trip. It will be a Friday in April - that's all I know so far. Alamo trip is set in stone for Friday, February 13th (dun dun dun!!!).

2) Our winter party is scheduled for Thursday, December 18th. Specific information to come when we get back next week.

3) I intentionally had the kids NOT take home anything in Monday Folders. People are coming and going this week, and there are bunch of grades, flyers, and extras to take a look back. I'd much rather have everyone start clean come Monday.

4) BOOK FAIR NEXT WEEK!! - Mrs. Letendre asked that I pass this along to all parents:

*****
Call for Book Fair Volunteers!
Caraway's winter book fair is scheduled for December 1st- 5th in the library. Parent volunteers are needed! Please either come by the library or call Mrs. Letendre at 464-5508 to sign up for a spot. Even an hour can really help the book fair run smoothly. Thank you!
*****
Are you ready for a Book Fair Safari?
Caraway's winter bookfair is scheduled for December 1st-5th. That's right when we get back from the break! Get your holiday shopping done in one place while supporting literacy as well as our very own library. We have some very special things happening this year. Mark your calendars for the Breakfast with Someone You Love at 6:45a.m. on Tuesday, December 2nd as well as the extended family hours until 7:30p.m. on Thursday, December 4th. Regular hours will be 7:30-3:30. Look for book fair flyers coming home with your student. Want to volunteer? Call Mrs. Letendre at 464-5508. See you on the Book Fair Safari!
Thank you!
Melanie

I hope everyone eats a LOT of what ever you decide to go with! Enjoy the football games, the family, and the rest!
Take care and be safe,
Gareth
